Blog: Nataliia's top 5 places to eat on campus

Hi, I'm Nataliia, a Student Content Shaper. Exploring the University of Birmingham campus can work up an appetite, but luckily, there are plenty of fantastic spots to grab a bite or sip some coffee. Whether you’re in the mood for a full lunch, a quick snack, or just a relaxing tea or coffee with friends, here are my top five favourite campus outlets to check out.

Food Fellows Coffee Shop at the Brammall (Music Building)

If you’re looking for a scenic and peaceful place to eat, the Food Fellows Coffee Shop at the Bramall (aka the Bramall café) in the Music Building is a must-visit. I’m especially fond of sitting on the first floor, where I can enjoy a view of Old Joe and the bustling campus below. The café is spacious, so it’s easy to find a seat and settle in for lunch.

What really stands out at Bramall is the coffee – it’s hands down the best on campus, in my opinion. The prices are reasonable, too, making it perfect for students who need quality caffeine without breaking the bank. Like with other Food Fellows outlets on campus, if you bring your own reusable cup with you, you can get 25p off drinks too.

University Centre

Univeristy Centre is my go-to spot for hearty, nutritious meals at affordable prices. The menu on both floors has a wide range of options, from customisable salads to hearty burritos and jacket potatoes, so there’s always something to suit your taste. I love that the food is served hot, is quite filling, and often healthy, which is just what I need for a midday pick-me-up. Plus, with its central location, it’s super convenient for anyone exploring or studying on campus.

Joe's Bar at the Guild of Students

If you’re after variety, Joe’s Bar is the place to be. Their selection covers everything from snacks to full meals, and the drink menu is extensive as well. It’s a popular spot for students, especially after society events or when catching up with friends. While it’s a little bit pricier than some of the other options on this list, the social atmosphere and wide range of choices make it worth the splurge every now and then.

Terrace Tea Room (Winterbourne Gardens)

For a peaceful tea break with a view, the Terrace Tea Room in Winterbourne House and Gardens is unbeatable. Not only is it a lovely escape, but entry to Winterbourne is free for students – just remember your student ID! The tearoom serves a great selection of teas, desserts, and even hot food. I’m particularly a fan of their freshly made soups, which are perfect for a chilly day. And with the beautiful garden setting, it’s hard to find a more charming place to relax on campus.

Costa Coffee (University Centre)

For coffee lovers, Costa in University Centre is a convenient gem. It’s perfectly located on the way from Selly Oak or the University Train Station, making it ideal for a quick stop on your commute. I love the coffee here, and the snacks are great for a short break between classes. With its central location, Costa is always buzzing with students, giving it that vibrant campus energy.

Whether you’re looking to study, relax, or just refuel, these spots offer something for everyone. Enjoy exploring them all – and finding your own favourite corner on campus!
