It's Disability History Month

Hear from students who share their personal experience of using The Student Disability Service.

Disability History Month was first established in the UK in 2010. It’s an opportunity to come together to celebrate and commemorate the lives and achievements of disabled people in the UK- and all across the world.

This year's theme is Livelihood and Employment which aims to correct misguided assumptions about disabled people in the workplace and raise awareness of the many barriers disabled individuals still face in accessing employment.

Some highlights include:

  • On Thursday 14 November from 17:00, Old Joe will be lighting up purple to celebrate #PurpleLightUp, an international initiative that highlights the economic impact of the 386 million disabled workers globally.
  • Working with a disability: Wednesday 20 November, 12:00-13:00. Register for the Zoom webinar.
  • Careers Network drop-in session for disabled students: Wednesday 27 November, 11:00-16:00. Pop in to G07 in Nuffield Building or register for the Zoom session by emailing Alex Ferranti: a.ferranti@bham.ac.uk
  • Happy Autistic Lady panel, disability and entrepreneurship: Wednesday 27 November, 17:00-18:00. Register for the event.
