Issue affecting Canvas and other key University services has been resolved

This morning, we were made aware of a widespread problem preventing staff and students from signing into Canvas. Whilst investigating this issue we quickly realised that it was also affecting access to other key University services such as Findit@Bham.

After further investigation, we discovered that the root cause of the problem stemmed from Shibboleth, one of the University’s single-sign on authentication services which enables people to login to Canvas and other services. We restarted the Shibboleth server and this resolved the issue.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused this morning. Work is now being carried out to make sure that this problem does not happen again.
