Celebrating IWD 2022 at UoB

Did you know that today is International Women’s Day (IWD)? Taking place each year on March 8, this is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural achievements of women throughout society. March also marks Women’s History Month.

At UoB, we are hugely proud of the amazing women that form part of our community of students, staff, and graduates and we’re pleased that today our Vice-Chancellor and Guild President have reaffirmed their commitment to championing equality at Birmingham. Throughout the month, we have a great programme of events to celebrate, educate and inspire, focusing on women's voices history and experiences. Here's one we are hosting next week:

Time to #BreakTheBias

This year’s theme for IWD 2022 is #BreakTheBias, a call to stand up against gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping.

You can get involved in the campaign by sharing a photo of you with crossed arms, or you could download our Selfie frame and share pictures of how you are breaking the bias.

Purple is the official colour of International Women's Day and Old Joe will be turning purple this evening in support. You too can choose to wear a shade of purple.

However you choose to support the day, don’t forget to tag @diversity_uob on Instagram or @EqualityUoB on Twitter and use the hashtags #BreakTheBias and #UoBWomen.

We can’t wait to see your photos!
