Go behind the scenes of working in sports media…

Sports journalism

Are you a first year undergraduate interested in sports journalism, broadcasting and production? Join the BBC on campus next week and find out more about what it’s like working in sports media.

The BBC will be on campus on Tuesday 1 March, 1-3pm at UB Sport and Fitness (Slater Hall), to film a new show called ‘A Sporting Life’ and they want you to come along and be in the audience. The panel show will explore what it’s like to be a sports journalist, broadcaster and member of production. You’ll also be treated to an insight into the production of large sporting events like the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

The panel will feature BBC Sport presenter Miriam Walker-Khan, footballer Liam MacDevitt, climber for Great Britain Molly Thompson-Smith and senior producer for BBC Sport Melissa Sharman.

The BBC would like students like you to join the show in the audience. If you’re a first year undergraduate student who has an interest in media and production, why not come along and join the exclusive opportunity.  As an audience member you are also encouraged to get involved and ask the panel questions about presenting, journalism, and production.

To take part and join you will need to be available on Tuesday 1 March between 1pm and 3pm.  Filming will commence at 1.30pm so late arrivals cannot be admitted. The capacity for the audience of the show is 50 people. As an audience member you’ll also be required to sign a contributor release form which will be available on the day of filming.

If you are interested in attending, please email Nick Wyatt at nick.wyatt@bbc.co.uk for more information. With limited places available get in touch today to reserve your spot.

For those interested but unable to attend, the programme will be filmed and published online on the BBC Young Reporter website and YouTube channel.
