Student Spotlight Award Winners

Worklink launched the Student Spotlight Awards to showcase the best of our student casual workers.

Every month, a winner and runner up will be chosen for formal recognition, a certificate of achievement and prize.

October Spotlight Award winner

For our first monthly award, we received some incredible nominations. After great deliberation we are tremendously pleased to announce our first winner and runner up.

Student Spotlight Awards Winner: Finlay Meecham, Admissions Enquiry Assistant

Since Finlay's first day with the Contact Team, he has shown such ambition to do well here, and his hard work and efforts really show. After just two weeks of training and drafting his work, he was trusted to do his own work. Finlay has been extremely eager to support the rest of the team, resolving over 50 emails per day and answering non-stop phone calls at our busiest time of year. He was an absolute star over Clearing, starting the day at 8am and finishing at 5pm, then completing even more work over the weekend to help the team further. He has shown an immense amount of dedication to this student casual role, which has been really lovely to see and he has been a pleasure to manage.

Not only is Finlay hard working, he starts the day with a smile and he has fit in with our permanent team wonderfully - it will be a shame when the contract ends! Finlay has shown progression within this role too. He points out errors or issues he finds himself and raises them to the relevant person/team, he collaborates with teams within External Relations and wider University when he needs to, and he takes responsibility of raising escalations and complaints to the right person when needed too. When dealing with difficult callers or calls that last over 45 minutes, Finlay does not complain or make a fuss. Finlay also helps with the phone queues even when he is not rota'd on, which really shows how responsible he is and takes tasks upon himself to help his teammates.

Finn has been a great team player and a pleasure to work with. I really hope he gets considered for the award, as he truly deserves it due to long, hard, tiring hours he has worked so wonderfully.

Student Spotlight Awards Runner-Up: Amelya Goodfellow - Student Content Shaper

I am nominating Amelya in recognition of her outstanding contribution as a Student Content Shaper. She has consistently provided valuable insight and feedback, helping to ensure that student-facing communications, resources, and services are clear, accessible and relevant. Her willingness to share experiences and represent the student voice has directly contributed to positive improvements that benefit the wider student community. Some of her work has led to an increased uptake in physical activity on campus. As a big advocate for sports societies as well she has created content that has led to students actively engaging with our team saying that the blog she wrote lead to them joining a society, and now they've gone from feeling a bit lost on campus to having a core group of friends. She always demonstrates professionalism, commitment, and a genuine desire to make the student experience better for others, something that embodies the work we want our student content shapers to do. Amelya also continues to challenge us as a team to make our processes smoother and more efficient leading to a better experience for other content shapers. She is a true asset to the University and we are going to be gutted to lose her when she graduates this year.
