CaStLeS was created and pump-primed by the University to support life science research. Therefore, in order to ensure its perennity, researchers using CaStLeS (or proposing to use it) should refer specifically to it in grant applications.
In addition to the CaStLeS-specific information below, please see our guidance page for including BEAR services in grant applications.
1. Storage
We strongly encourage all researchers to store their research data on CaStLeS storage, with certain exceptions, to secure and ease their access. The university provides up to 3TB research data storage for free. If you need more than 3TB then you should include the cost of the storage you intend to use. See our current storage costs.
2. CaStLeS QOS / BlueBEAR
If you are intending to use the CaStLeS QOS in BlueBEAR then we encourage you to purchase priority access. This will allow us to purchase additional hardware to include in the CaStLeS QOS, as we remove older hardware over time.
Note that this means that you will have access to a virtual resource rather than physical node: you will have access to the whole CaStLeS QOS as normal but with increased limits and priority queuing.
3. Virtual Machine
If you are intending to use one or more CaStLeS virtual machines for your project, then please request a quote for the specific size of VM you will require. All virtual machines are now paid-for options.
4. University Contribution
Please note that you may be allowed access to more CaStLeS resources than you include in your application. In that case it is worth listing them as part of the University contribution to your application. For example you will be able to access all of the CaStLeS QOS even if you only include funding for one node (or none).
