Marketing Communications


The Marketing Communications team supports staff across the College. We work closely with a number of other key College and University wide teams too including the College Web team, College Research Support Office(CRSO), Development and Alumni Relations Office(DARO), Events and Stakeholder Relations as well as Reprographics, the Press Office. Media team and central Design & Publications.

Marketing can offer support to you in a variety of ways including promoting your area of work; student marketing, recruitment and conversion activities; market research and analysis; online communications as well as supporting your internal communications. The team also provides a range of services to help improve internal and external reputational communications. For you, this might include the likes of:

  • Creating communication and marketing plans to help you attract students, staff and research funders;
  • Course enquirer, applicant and student communications (using the Hobsons CRM system);
  • Supporting Schools with their design; copy and editorial; print; distribution; and overall promotion of courses (as well as online and print prospectus and course fliers/brochures etc);
  • Events management and promotion; 
  • Media training and support (including use of social media);
  • Access to a range of email and postal databases including the NHS, Local Government, Civil Service, MPs, Councillors, Schools and other Universities - any many more!
  • Overseeing School print and online advertising budgets including obtaining quotes, booking space to writing and designing copy etc;
  • Access to University and external agency photography and stock images;
  • Media relations and stakeholder engagement;
  • Supporting department student recruitment activities e.g. open days and AVDs etc;
  • Overseeing UK and International higher education recruitment fairs and other key stakeholder events as well as supporting relationships with overseas agents and British Council offices etc;
  • Raising the profile of your academic expertise and achievements through press releases, print and online materials including Birmingham Briefs, podcasts and social media etc;
  • Programme development support;
  • Speech writing;
  • Post research communications support;
  • Staff communications;
  • College communication including VC weekly reports; College Assembly; termly College updates to University Senate and Council.

The team works closely with the University's central External Relations team and can therefore provide direct access to a variety of useful resources including the press office; central events and stakeholder relations activities; and internal communications teams.
