Survey Monkey

This is a brief addendum to the ‘Information Champions’ - Information Security’ update in the February Newsletter.

The University’s Legal Services Team, working with IT Services, has confirmed that Survey Monkey is safe for collecting non-sensitive personal data about individuals.

Before starting a survey, researchers are requested to contact Survey Monkey to obtain a SurveyMonkey username. This should be included in a standard Data Processing Agreement which must be signed by the Director of Legal Services. Researchers should contact Legal Services using the Advice Request Form, accessible from - https://intranet.birmingham.ac.uk/legal-services/index.aspx - with information about the project and the Survey Monkey username.

If a survey is likely to collect sensitive personal data, an alternative survey provider must be used. Colleagues in the College of Social Sciences are able to access Bristol Online Survey software by raising a request through the IT Service Desk. Servers are based in the UK and can be used for more than 10 questions and 100 participants per survey (which is the limit for a free SurveyMonkey account).

More information is available via the IT Service Desk and at the following link: https://universityofbirmingham.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB11180.
