Books wanted for Bookcrossing

Are you having a clear out of books? Or, do you have books that you’ve really enjoyed that you’d like to pass on to other readers? Or, are you perhaps already involved in book crossing? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for donations of books to help promote bookcrossing at the University both in general and in connection with Welcome 2013 (including GRAB and International Day events) and the book festival in October, Book to the Future.

What’s bookcrossing?
Book crossing is when people leave books for others at established locations or ‘in the wild’ (on a bench or a bus) for someone to find. You log the books online at http://www.bookcrossing.com/ before they are ‘released’ (including a note on why you like it) and attach a label with a barcode in the front of it. When they are ‘found’, they can then be tracked on the same website. It’s international and growing in popularity and it is a really positive way of promoting a sense of community.
At the University of Birmingham, we have a bookcrossing zone already in the main library in the ilounge and there may well be others across campus (get in touch if you have one!) and we’d like to have more if possible.

How can I donate books?
Please bring them to either of the following locations: -
Helen Murray - Arts building room G22 (first door on the right on the left hand corridor of the ground floor)
Becky Shales - Rm316A in zone 5D of the main library

Do I need to log them on the website first?
We will do that for you, although if you’d like to leave a comment on a slip of paper inside each book, we can log this on your behalf.

Any questions or want to check when we’re in the office?
Do please email or give us a call: h.murray@bham.ac.uk and 414 6432 or r.l.shales@bham.ac.uk and 414 3397.
