Colleagues recognised for their long service

Colleagues from across the University have been recognised for almost 1,500 years of combined service. 

Vice-Chancellor Adam Tickell hosted a marquee celebration event at Meadowcroft for the 56 Long Service Award winners and their guests last month to mark the spectacular occasion. 

Gardeners, professors and library staff were among the 53 employees celebrated for completing 25 years of service. A further three members of staff were acknowledged for contributing a remarkable 50 years of service each. 

A wide range of employees were recognised for their dedication, with representation from every college, and multiple professional services departments.

Adam met some of the staff who have been integral in shaping the development of the University of Birmingham and upholding its reputation over the past 25 and 50 years. 

Represented departments included: 

  • College of Social Sciences: Social Policy  
  • College of Medical and Dental Sciences: Clinical Sciences, Cancer and Genomic Sciences, MDS – College Hub, Applied Health Research, Immunology and Immunotherapy and Metabolism and Systems Research 
  • College of Life and Environmental Sciences: Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences 
  • College of Engineering and Physical Sciences: Physics and Astronomy, Metallurgy and Materials, Chemistry, Collaborative Teaching Laboratory, Computer Science and Engineering 
  • College of Arts and Law: History and Cultures and Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music 
  • External Relations: Admissions and Student Recruitment Outreach 
  • Campus Services: Conferences and Events, Sport and Fitness Club and Raymond Priestly Centre  
  • Estates: Maintenace (reactive), Maintenance (planned) and Grounds and Gardens  
  • Academic Services: Library Services, Library Services LRAT/TAMU and Registry  
  • IT Services: Portfolio and Project Management 
  • Executive Support: Vice Chancellor’s Office, Strategic Planning and Performance Insight  
  • Biomedical Services Unit 
  • Human Resources: Central Staff Hub, HR Advisory Service 

As shown by the recent unveiling of the QS World University rankings, the University of Birmingham is a world leading research-intensive institution and colleagues from across the University have been fundamental in maintaining and achieving this status. The Long Service Awards provide the chance to recognise and congratulate staff for their achievements and accomplishments throughout their years of service.  

We want to extend our huge congratulations to the employees celebrating such momentous milestones, and whose commitment and dedication to the University is both remarkable and inspirational.
