We want to see the UoB through your lens

To mark the University of Birmingham’s 125th anniversary, we’re launching a fun and creative photo competition – and all students are invited to take part!
Whether you're a first-year exploring campus for the first time or a seasoned postgrad making your return, we want to see what student life looks like to you.
We’re looking for photos that capture the essence of student life at the start of the year along the themes of:
- community and academic life
That could be your go-to study spot, a selfie with new friends, campus in full autumn glow or taking part in a society or community event. If it feels like student life, it fits the brief.
What’s in for you?
The best entries will be featured in official university channels and displayed as part of our 125th anniversary celebrations. And we have some fab prizes up for grabs:
- 1st place: Instax camera (with film) plus limited edition UoB merch (125 tote bag and key ring).
- Two runners up will receive a £15 Amazon voucher and limited edition UoB merch (125 tote bag and water bottle).
How to enter
- You can submit up to three of your best images with your entry-but just one entry per person.
- Make sure to upload high-quality JPEG/PNG images (at least 2MB).
- Label each file with your student ID followed by the entry number. For example: 85858509entry1, 85858509entry2, 85858509entry3.
- We cannot accept any images that aren't clearly labelled with your student ID and entry number.
- The competition is open until 31 October 2025.
We’ll then ask our expert judging panel to pick the top three standout shots.
The winners will be contacted via their student email address in November. The winning photos will be shared for everyone to see.
The finer details
Because of data protection and consent rules, we won’t be able to shortlist any photos where people are clearly identifiable, unless you tell us to say you have their agreement (tick question on competition form). It’s fine if there are people in the background—as long as they’re not recognisable.
This is your chance to be part of the university’s story – and to show off your unique take on what student life at UoB looks like in 2025.
