We are excited to launch the third IEC, which is the University of Birmingham’s flagship student enterprise competition, where students from Dubai campus compete against students from Edgbaston students, simply with an idea, to win a grand prize of £5,000. This is part of our Innovation Pathway.

Competition process

  • Stage 1: Submit your idea by 17:00 (UK time) Sunday 22nd February 2026 via the application form.
  • Stage 2: Semi-finals
  • Stage 3: Grand final

BUT if you do not have an idea yet, that is okay, come along to our Innovation Pathway support workshops, designed to support you with your journey through Intercampus Enterprise Competition.

Do I have to be a UoB student to enter the IEC 2026?

Yes.

Can I enter on my own?

Yes

Can I enter in a group?

Yes. Groups of 2-4 students are allowed to enter.

Can I enter in a group and on my own?

No. You may only enter as an individual OR a group.

Can I enter an existing business?

No. Ideas only please.

How do I enter?

Complete this application form. Please note, you will need to record a 4-minute video explaining your idea.

Where will the grand final take place?

Birmingham city centre: The Exchange Building.

Terms & Conditions

Entrants are required to pitch a creative business idea. The idea must be original and innovative. Existing businesses and charities are not eligible to enter this competition. 

By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms and Conditions

Submitting your entry

To enter IEC 2026, you will need to complete this application form.

As part of your entry, you will need to record a 4 minute video explaining your idea, which you will upload in the form.

Here are some options on how to record your video entry:

  • Use your phone: Speak into your phone in selfie-mode. Or
  • Use your laptop: Speak into your computer or laptop camera. Or
  • Use PowerPoint: If you want to present slides, you can create a PowerPoint Presentation explaining your idea, with your face included.

If you are entering as a group, we encourage you to include all group member faces in your video entry.

Judging criteria

At each stage of IEC, you will be judged on the following criteria. These criteria are:

  1. Innovation – How new, unique, efficient or impactful is your proposed idea.
  2. Commercial viability – How likely is it that your idea has the potential to succeed and be profitable as a business, with customers buying your product.
  3. Presentation – Have you included all the mandatory content.

Each criterion will be scored out of 20 marks each, with a total of 60 marks available.
