Mentoring

Need to talk through an idea? Want to learn about what it’s really like to work in a particular sector? Why not connect with a mentor.

Careers Network Mentoring is a great way to gain insight into where you want to be and how you can get there. By having a mentor, you will gain access to their experiences of when they were once in a similar position to you.

Benefits of mentoring for you:

  • Discover your strengths and develop new skills
  • Explore what you do and don’t want/like
  • Increase your knowledge and confidence to have a clearer career direction and reach your aspirations

The Birmingham Award

Get recognition for your extra-curricular activities through The Birmingham Award.

Whether it’s volunteering, part time work or key activities – they all add up as points towards the overall award.

The Birmingham Award is the University of Birmingham's recognised employability programme for undergraduate students.  It enables you to develop, recognise and articulate your skills in preparation for real-world recruitment processes.

The Birmingham Project

Are you a first year? Why not improve your employability skills and work on a project with other students from across the University.

The Birmingham Project is an optional two-week long event held at the end of the summer term. For first year undergraduate students only, this exciting opportunity allows students to work together in multi-disciplinary groups to develop an innovative information resource in response to a real world challenge.

During the project, participants will develop their employability skills and attend various training sessions, including; project management and digital media in a fun and supportive environment.

The project concludes with group presentations and an awards afternoon where we recognise all the hard work of the students and announce our winners.

B-Enterprising Internships - paid work experience

Get paid work experience and add value to a smaller organisations in the Midlands.

Exclusively for final year students and graduates, B-Experienced Internships are paid internships with local start-ups, small to medium sized enterprises, and social enterprises.

You will get the chance to experience the excitement of working for a smaller company, and develop a wide range of skills, all whilst getting paid. Opportunities are available in the autumn term, and also the summer vacation.
