Wellbeing Wednesday - 28 October 2026

This week, we’re looking at how we’re supporting your studies:

  • Academic Skills Centre
  • Research Skills Centre
  • Birmingham International Academy
  • Extensions and Extenuating Circumstances

Academic Skills Centre

The Academic Skills Centre is here to support you with one-to-one help in writing, maths, stats, digital, and research skills. Get all the info.

Research Skills Centre

Are you a postgraduate research student? The Research Skills Centre gives you access to tailored help in literature searching, referencing, and data management via one-to-one appointments or virtual drop-ins. Access support for researchers.

Birmingham International Academy

The Birmingham International Academy’s (BIA) Academic English programme is here to help you develop your language skills, and it’s free to all international students. Discover what’s on offer.

Extensions and Extenuating Circumstances

If unexpected and unavoidable issues impact your studies, you may be eligible for a coursework extension or to submit an Extenuating Circumstances (EC) request.

  • Please submit your extension request before your coursework deadline. If you have a RAP with the adjustment for extensions, please be aware this is not automatically applied and you must still submit a request. You can find the Extension and EC request forms here.
  • Extenuating Circumstances allow you to retrospectively declare unforeseen issues that have affected your ability to study or complete an assessment.

Please read the guidance before submitting a request:
