This trained group of staff and student volunteers is on call in case of an emergency or serious incident on campus. From distributing hot drinks and blankets to forming a cordon, they provide an extra layer of support for our University community.
How does it work?
In the event of an emergency – for example, a fire – volunteers get an alert on their phone via SafeZone with instructions for where to meet. An Incident Commander will direct them on arrival. There will be no duty rota or obligation to attend to an alert.
Interested in becoming an Emergency Responder?
All that’s required from volunteers is a willingness to assist the Community Safety and Security team, download the SafeZone app on your phone and attend training workshops. In return, you’ll be part of a volunteering community at the University, get insights into how leaders work with the emergency services, and learn additional teamwork skills.
