Job Opportunity - Outreach R2P Mentor

The Outreach Office are recruiting undergraduate students to become mentors for year 12 students in local secondary schools and colleges. As an Outreach R2P Mentor you would be expected to engage in both in-person and online mentoring with approximately six learners; supporting students to learn more about professional career in one of the following areas: Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy or Social Work.

To be eligible for the programme, the young people involved must be able to demonstrate through their application that they are from an under represented background and would therefore benefit from participating in the programme. Do you have what it takes?

  • Can you act as a role model for pupils and help them to achieve their potential?
  • Are you willing to attend the R2P Edgbaston campus based launch event on Saturday 10 February 2024?   
  • Are you able to spend around two hours a month corresponding with young people online?
  • Are you a strong communicator with good English language skills?
  • Do you have a good understanding of the UK school system?
  • Are you able to listen, respect the opinions and beliefs of others?
  • Are you willing to share your experiences, use your initiative and be resourceful?
  • Are you reliable and conscientious? Applicants need to commit to supporting the R2P programme for almost one calendar year. (February 2024-December 2024)

Successful candidates will need to complete an application form, attend an online interview, then successfully complete training and undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (DBS cost paid by the University for successful applicants) before they can start working. Candidates must also register with Worklink, and complete a Right to Work (R2W) check to demonstrate eligibility to work in the UK before they can start in this role.
