Go Global Applications are Open
Is the chilly autumnal weather making you dream of being abroad? Applications for Go Global opportunities are now open! Here’s how you can make going global a reality.
We have a wide range of international opportunities available for Summer 2025, including academic summer schools, language and cultural courses, research placements and volunteering and internships throughout June, July and August.
There's plenty of time to decide where you want to spend your summer ahead of the 30 November deadline!
Enrol on our My Global Story Canvas for more information about what exciting international opportunity awaits you, the application process and information about funding.
We have categorised some of the opportunities to help with your research and budgeting. Here are some suggestions for you to consider:
- Fully funded: little to no cost for students
- Volunteering in Morocco, Atlas Outreach programme – flights, programme and accommodation all paid for by UoB, involves fundraising for a charity before the programme. Students should budget for any spending money/additional activities they wish to participate in
- Summer camps in USA through Camp New York – paid 9-week opportunity, involves some up-front costs
- More opportunities may become available in January – this is not guaranteed.
- Significant funding contribution:
Exchange places are available for these opportunities, meaning no programme/tuition fees are involved. Each opportunity is marked with information about other anticipated costs e.g. accommodation, flights, living costs. As Birmingham Scholars, you would be eligible to receive a higher grant through the Turing Scheme, which acts as a significant contribution towards the cost of taking part in the below opportunities:
- Fudan University, China (U21 funding available)
- Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China (scholarship available through host university)
- TU Braunschweig, Germany
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong
- Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy
- Linkoping University, Sweden
- Tec de Monterrey, Mexico (U21 funding available)
- More opportunities at partner universities will be available as part of Round 2.
- Budgeting:
An important part of the process is research and budgeting – this will help you to narrow down potential destinations, and ensure you are able to make the most of your time abroad.
When completing your budget plan, please consider all costs involved with each opportunity e.g. programme fee, accommodation, food, flights, transport and extra activities. Programme/tuition fees are applicable to all students unless exchange or discounted places are specifically mentioned for an opportunity on Where can I go page?
As Birmingham Scholars, funding available may only be a contribution towards the total costs of taking part, depending on the type of opportunity. Some volunteering/internship opportunities are more affordable than others so do your research well!
