Rights retention: questions and feedback

A new Research Publication Policy (DOCX - 100 KB) is due be implemented in January 2025. Together with amendments to the Code of Practice for Research (DOCX - 131 KB), this new policy will enable the introduction of rights retention at the University of Birmingham. Both policies are currently available for review prior to final implementation and so should not be shared beyond the University.

The policies, along with supporting web pages, are being shared to prepare researchers for rights retention implementation and provide an opportunity to ask questions and give feedback on the support materials that are being made available.

You are encouraged to

  1. Review the online presentation and our webpages which summarise the policy and the rationale behind it and our author guidance, which summarise the process authors will need to follow to comply with the policy. We have also made a growing list of frequently asked questions available, and will continue to add to this as new questions arise.
  2. Review the draft policy. Raise any questions and/or concerns either by emailing openaccesspublications@contacts.bham.ac.uk, or attending one of the four Q+A sessions detailed below.
  3. Advise on any additional support materials that may be required by emailing openaccesspublications@contacts.bham.ac.uk

We will keep your feedback under review throughout November 2024 and will update the FAQ accordingly.
