Learning about consent

Everyone wants to feel safe, respected and supported while at uni, and a big part of that is understanding consent and knowing how to look out for each other. That’s why all students are expected to complete a consent course on Canvas:

  • Undergraduates: Consent Matters on the Student Support & Development Hub
  • Postgraduate Taught: Lead the Change on the Student Support & Development Hub
  • Postgraduate Researchers: Lead the Change on the Postgraduate Research Support & Development Hub

The short courses are designed to help you understand consent, boundaries and respectful behaviour, and how to look out for others. Find out more about your consent course here or you can log into Canvas to get started.

The Guild are also running in-person sessions during SHAG Week

Support at UoB

Report + Support

If you've been subjected to any form of harmful behaviour – including sexual harassment, sexual violence, or other misconduct – Report + Support offers a trained Responder to talk to confidentially and explore your options. You can also let us know what happened anonymously.

Pivotal Recovery: support for problematic porn use

To help support students who are struggling with problematic porn use (PPU), we have partnered with Pivotal Recovery to give you confidential and free access to a professionally guided online course, created by leading sex and relationship psychotherapist and author Dr Paula Hall.

Better Than Well: recovery support group

Better Than Well is a community of students at the University of Birmingham who are in recovery or seeking recovery from addiction, whether that's substance abuse like alcohol and drugs, or behavioural addiction like sex, food or gambling.

Time to Talk?

Sexual health and consent conversations can sometimes bring up difficult feelings. If you need someone to talk to, there many ways you can reach out for confidential support at UoB.
