Love is Love - celebrate with us

We’re so excited to be celebrating Pride in Birmingham again (from 27-28 May), and we’d love to see you there!

Birmingham Pride brings together tens of thousands of members of the LGBTQ+ community, friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of LGBTQ+ equality.

On Saturday (27 May), our UoB community will be once again marching at the annual Birmingham Pride Parade. Can you make 2023 our best turnout?

How can you get involved?

After record numbers of over 500 members of the UoB community turned out in 2022, we're calling on all students to take part in one of the UoB parade teams at this year’s pride parade.

As a participant, you'll have access to an indoor rest area with bottled water and washroom facilities before the start of the parade. Participants are requested to arrive at the UoB check-in desks at the Exchange in Centenary Square, Birmingham (opposite the Library of Birmingham) between 10:30am to 11:00am on the day.

Please note, there are several departments and colleges with their own parade team. Everyone will be meeting and walking together, so if you're not sure which team to register with then the link for the UoB and Guild of Students joint team is open to all students.

Events like Pride and LGBTQ+ History Month provide a great opportunity to celebrate inclusivity and to connect with others. Read student Arianna's blog on the importance of finding a community.

UoB at the Village Street Party

The University's stall will be staged at the Village Street Party on Saturday 27 May. Pop by the UoB stall to say hello to our student and staff volunteers, pick up some UoB branded LGBTQ+ merchandise, or take a short break on our deck chairs.

Free Community event on Friday

Held in the heart of the Pride Village on Hurst Street between 6-10pm, Birmingham Pride also offers a free community event with live music and a candlelit vigil at the main pride site on Friday 26 May. Be sure to claim your free ticket here.

How we celebrated last year

On Saturday 24 September 2022, around hundreds of students, staff and alumni marched together to celebrate 25 years of pride and protest. Watch our video for a flavour of the day.
