You Said, We Did: how we are supporting you

We’re always looking to improve the student experience at UoB. Whether that’s through surveys or through initiatives like The Student Corner, listening and responding to your feedback is important to us.

Here are some of the things we’ve implemented to better support you, and are continuing to make improvements on, so you can fully enjoy your time here at UoB.

Financial Support

We know that with the Cost of Living crisis, this time can feel challenging.

To help you, we’ve supported your Guild of Students with their Community Pantry initiative alongside the Guild Hardship Fund.

To give you the flexibility to bring your own food onto campus, more microwaves and hot and cold-water taps have also been made available across various study spaces on campus.

Additionally, we have a Student Support Fund that can award up to £2,000 to any student who is struggling. Supplies of period products are also available for anyone who may need them at the Student Hub.

Support for you

Your wellbeing matters to us. We’ve invested in two new recovery initiatives including ‘Better Than Well’ to support any students who may be struggling with addiction at University.

We’ve also expanded our Time to Talk? campaign to make sure there is a wider awareness of the support and services available for you.

The Aston Webb Student Hub has also undergone refurbishment to make it more accessible and help you easily seek advice from various teams at UoB, including the International Student Team, who have been relocated to the Student Hub.

Accessibility and Inclusion

To increase access opportunities and inclusion, we have committed £1 million each year to improve accessibility on campus as well as a further £1 million to provide 10 new full scholarships for black students to study for a PhD.

As a new University of Sanctuary, we are also supporting five students from refugee backgrounds every year with scholarships and living costs.

Have your say

Those are just a few of the changes we’ve implemented to improve your time here at Birmingham.

Do you have feedback on your experience at UoB? Then look out for ways to have your say this February through national student surveys. Your opinions matter to us and as a thank you for your time and feedback, we're offering students a chance to win a cash prize. Keep an eye on your emails.

There are also ongoing opportunities to influence decision-making at UoB; join The Student Corner or the Student Reps Scheme.
