Welcome to our Postgraduate section. Here you can find the latest updates specifically for taught (PGT) and research (PGR) postgraduates. 

Postgraduate Christmas Events on Campus 

Join the University Graduate School (UGS) for a host of festive events in the run up to the winter break. 

For PGTs, join our festive-themed Short Story Club in the Guild of Students for British Christmas traditions and food. Find PGT events here

For our PGRs, we’re holding Christmas film night (with festive jumpers encouraged!) and our annual PGR Christmas Party at Westmere House. See all PGR events here

  • Carol service 

12 December 2022, 6.15pm, University Great Hall

Staff, students, alumni, family, and friends are welcome to this traditional service of carols, readings, and a spectacular selection of festive music from the University of Birmingham Music Department. 

  • Lights switch on 

Thursday 1 December, 5.00pm, Bramall Music Building in Chancellor's Court 

Come along and join our special guest Santa switching on the Christmas tree lights. Keep a look out for our beloved Old Joe having a festive surprise! 

  • Sober Social's Game Night 

Friday 2 December, 7.00-10.00pm, Nuffield Building - G17, G18, G19 and G22 

Sober Socials run weekly events, every Friday from 7pm until 10pm. Come along for a variety of games such as Werewolf, Exploding Kittens, Coup, Jackbox and more!

Train Strikes 

The RMT union have announced industrial action on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14, Friday 16 and Saturday 17 December 2022 
  • Tuesday 3, Wednesday 4, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 January 2023 

Plan ahead if you're going home for the holidays and once you return. 

Returner students: Accommodation 

University-owned accommodation isn’t just for your first year! Some of the benefits include fixed rents for the entire year, all bills included with no hidden costs, and a short walk from campus. 

Register by logging on to the accommodation portal from Thursday 1 December. 

Proposed new parking policy – drop-in sessions 

You are invited to share your views on what the future of car parking should look like at the University.

  • Wednesday 7 December, 10.00-11.30am via Zoom. 
  • Thursday 8 December from 10.00am-12.00pm - venue TBC
