Dr Christine Kitchen
Associate Director of Advanced Research Computing at Cardiff University (ARCCA) and Interim Technical Manager for HPC Wales

Christine is the Associate Director of Advanced Research Computing at Cardiff University (ARCCA) and Interim Technical Manager for HPC Wales. She joined Cardiff in 2007 to help establish the centralised research computing department, overseeing the deployment and installation of the Supercomputer and creation of a new datacentre during her first twelve months. ARCCA & HPC Wales supports and trains over 2,000 users from 18 of the University’s research schools.

Prior to joining Cardiff, Christine worked in the Distributed Computing (DisCo) group, at the STFC Daresbury Laboratory, where she led the Commercial Outreach and Training activity in addition to her roles as system administrator and technical consultant to collaborative university and industry sites with mid-range cluster computing.

Christine obtained her PhD in Theoretical Chemistry in 2001. Following her doctorate, she spent three years in the Molecular Modelling and Drug Design group at AstraZeneca, where she undertook research on a grid-based Poisson-Boltzmann model to predict the electrostatic properties of molecules.
