Meet our Staff: Dr Nicola Rollock

Description
Dr Nicola Rollock is the Deputy Director of the newly launched Centre for Research in Race and Education (CRRE) in the School of Education and teaches the BA Hons in Education on issues around ethnic diversity, race and racism and Whiteness. Nicola has worked closely with policymakers for example hosting with David Lammy a private conversation at Portcullis House to discuss Black educational achievement and being called last year to provide evidence to the Liberal Democrats Race Equality Taskforce.

2013 Teaching and Learning Conference Call for Proposals (Deadline Friday 12th April)

Description
This year is the 10th annual Teaching and Learning Conference. In a change to the established format, this year's conference will be held over two days, the 24 and 25 June, and will feature four key speakers (including Simon Bates from UBC Vancouver - http://www.phas.ubc.ca/users/simon-bates) followed by a number of individual presentations/workshops, all based around the central theme of Technology Enhanced Learning.

The Department of Education and Social Justice (ESJ) is an interdisciplinary group focusing on social justice and critical enquiry in education and whose members share a common interest in researching the inequalities that persist in society. We are research-led, practice engaged academics and include amongst ourselves leading authorities in history, politics, sociology and education.

Research win for Political Science and International Studies academics

Description
Over £200K has been directed by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) via the Science and Security strand into a project on "The Political Effects of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles on Conflict and Cooperation within and between States", which is led by a POLSIS (Political Science and International Studies) team of Professor Nicholas Wheeler, Professor Stefan Wolff and Dr David Dunn.

Working together to understand new migration and superdiversity in Birmingham: issues, challenges and policy solutions

Description
Lisa Goodson recently delivered a seminar with Jenny Phillimore, Ann Bolstridge and Ricky Joseph, about the new Practitioner Research Programme (PRP). The PRP is one of the Institute for Research into Superdiversity's (IRiS) flagship projects which builds on learning from an established Community Research model developed in the School of Social Policy.
