University shortlisted for Green Gown Award

Green-Gown-Awards-2012---Autosig-for-stage-2-shortlist

We are pleased to announce that the University has been shortlisted in the Carbon Reduction category of the Green Gown Awards 2012 for the steam bridge serving the Medical School.

Congratulations to the Estates Office, and to all who worked on the distintictive silver bridge over the railway and canal, which enables the Medical School to be heated from the University's Combined Heat Power (CHP) station. This has resulted in an impressive reduction in our carbon footprint of 1,500 tonnes per year!

The team behind the bridge were awarded Idea of the Year at this year's BUAFTAs, and are looking to continue this success with a win at the Green Gown Awards later this year.

Now in their 8th year, the Green Gown Awards recognise exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK, and are established as the most prestigious recognition of best practice within the further and higher education sector. Further details on the awards are available at http://www.eauc.org.uk/green_gown_awards.
