Join the judges at the Barber's new photographic competition exhibition!

Do you have an eye for a picture? Why not have your say on works on display in the latest exhibition at the Barber Institute?

Function III: The Urban Landscape as Photographic Panorama opens at the gallery on 7 September and shows the city of Birmingham in a whole new light. As part of an ongoing collaboration with Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Birmingham City University, undergraduate photography students from the Visual Communications course were challenged to look at the city views depicted in the Barber's current exhibition coin exhibition, Cityscapes, and produce photographic responses to their own urban environment. The resulting photographic images of Birmingham impressed the judges with their astonishing variety of subject and style – showing often unexpected and surprising sides of the city, its places, spaces and people. The shortlisted entries, produced as 5ft prints, will be displayed in the exhibition.

And, while the overall winner has already been chosen, gallery visitors are being asked to choose a 'People's Choice' by voting for their favourite photographic work. To vote, simply visit the gallery, enjoy the pictures, and fill in a voting slip.

You can also vote via the Barber's Facebook site (but a visit to the gallery is strongly recommended to view the works to best advantage!).

Voting is open until 5pm on Monday 1 October.
