New library management system launches

We are pleased to confirm that Library Services’ new library management system, Aleph was launched on 1 August with a live service restored by the end of 2 August.

The migration was successful: the FindIt@Bham search facility (http://findit.bham.ac.uk) is now directing users to Aleph and staff across the service are using the new system for all aspects of their work.

The implementation of Aleph was the final component of the Library Content Programme. Aleph will enable Library Services to better manage the University’s library collections and to improve the service we provide to library users.

FindIt@Bham, which launched in September 2012, was another component of the Library Content Programme. FindIt@Bham remains the route by which users can search across all of the University of Birmingham’s information resources including printed and online books and journals, subject databases and full text articles as well as content from the University’s research and publications repositories. Work is continuing by the Project Team to fully reintroduce some customer self-service and display features/functionality. These will be available by the start of the new academic year at the latest.

Library Services apologise for any inconvenience caused during the migration to Aleph, but are confident that the new system will enable the University to offer an enhanced library service going forward. If you have any queries or require any further information about either Aleph or FindIt@Bham, then please contact Steve Bull (s.a.bull@bham.ac.uk).
