Take part in Black History Month

The University is taking part in city-wide celebrations of Black History Month this October and there are lots of ways you can take part.

Poetry Competition
Before the start of Black History Month, the University is launching of a very special competition. We’re inviting you to submit a poem or letter about someone that has inspired you to make a change in your life. Perhaps a family member, friend, an historical figure, artist, musician or scientist has brought about inspirational change in your life? A selection of the poems and letters will form part of Poetry Trail that will be displayed in creative and surprising ways across the University’s Edgbaston campus throughout Black History Month. The closing date for entries is Sunday 12 October and prizes will be awarded in each of three competition categories: under 12 years, 13-17 years, and 18 years and over. Poems and letters can be any style; however there is a maximum word limit of 150 words. Please email entries to blackhistorymonth@contacts.bham.ac.uk and be sure to include your name, mobile number and the age category you wish to enter.
