Guidance on submitting your nomination

How do the awards work?

You can nominate yourself for the following categories: UG Student of the Year, PG Student of the Year, Placement/Internship Student of the Year, and Graduate Student of the Year. Your nomination should reflect one (or more) of the five values below, which serve as the judging criteria.

A panel will shortlist ten of the best nominations for each award, and three overall winners will receive £500 each. The remaining nominations will be shortlisted according to the values categories, with winners receiving £250. All shortlisted nominees will be invited to the event, where winners will be announced.

You can use any experience from the past 12 months as evidence for your nomination. Reflect on your time at university, including work experience, part-time jobs, involvement in societies or sports teams, ambassador roles, personal projects, or community volunteer work. If the experience was completed while you were a student at the University of Birmingham, it counts!

What are the five values?

Your application should showcase your extra-curricular achievements in one (or more) of the following categories:

Innovation: Your creative ideas or solutions have made a positive impact or improved processes. You embrace challenges with a positive attitude and think outside the box.

Collaboration: You demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences, boosting group productivity and creativity.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I): You show outstanding dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion within our school and university community, advocating for marginalised groups and promoting social justice. This could include involvement in community outreach programs, societies, or extracurricular activities that promote cultural awareness.

Social Impact and Responsibility: You exhibit responsible business practices and create positive social impacts through innovative or collaborative efforts. You may have started your own business or worked for another company, focusing on sustainability or community initiatives.

Ambition: You pursue goals with exceptional ambition, pushing boundaries and making an impact despite obstacles.
