Former Film and Creative Writing Undergraduate
One month after completing my Graduate Internship with the University of Birmingham, I successfully interviewed to join King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) as a Peer Support Coordinator. The projects that I worked on as part of my internship directly related to many university and students’ union jobs and prepared me well for what it might be like to work in higher education. For example, I was able to lead on the planning and delivery of the 2021 Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) Societies’ Fair, which gave me experience in coordinating and promoting medium-scale events. This was in addition to leading on the EPS Wellbeing Review for BAME Accessibility, which allowed me to organise and facilitate focus groups with students, network with external organisations and write up a report collating my findings. I have been in the Peer Support Coordinator role at KCLSU for two years now and thank the UoB Graduate Internship Programme for not only giving me the skills and confidence to secure my first full-time job but also for giving me insight into a sector that I now plan on staying in for the foreseeable future.
