Welcome from the Pathways to Careers Team here at the University.  It was great to see so many of you at the Scholars event in the Great Hall last week.  As part of your Pathways to Birmingham programme we have a range of incredible opportunities open to you with your degree and we have some incredible events lined up in October!

Whether you know exactly what you want to do…plenty of ideas…or none at all… we are here to guide you with:

  • Creating effective CVs, applications and preparing for an interview
  • Work experience opportunities in the UK, overseas or even online
  • Mentoring and support from our alumni and professionals
  • Networking and meeting people from across a range of sectors
  • Identifying your strengths

Academic Skills Centre & Careers Network, Birmingham Scholars Drop-in.

Wednesday 25th October 12.00 – 14.00pm

Location: Academic Skills Centre Room 1st Floor Main Library

No need to book, just turn up. 

Drop in to see both the Academic Skills Centre and Careers Network team to ask questions or gain advice around:

  • Preparing for any assignments, exams, or general development of your study skills including Academic writing, research, reading, time management, and more!
  • How Careers Network can support you with next steps towards your career.

There are also chocolates and biscuits!

Careers fairs run by Careers Network.

Come along to one or more of our careers fairs to meet recruiters, find out more about employers and industries, and discover graduate jobs. Our fairs will take place in the Great Hall, Aston Webb, and are open to all students regardless of degree. During October there will also be advisers on hand to review your CVs or answer your careers questions, just down the corridor in G30. 

  • Autumn Fair: Wednesday 4th October, 11am-3pm
  • Engineering, Science and Technology: Wednesday 11th October, 11am-3pm
  • Business, Finance and Consultancy: Wednesday 18th October, 11am-3pm
  • Law: Wednesday 8th November, 1-3pm

Enrol on The Birmingham Award and gain recognition for your extra-curricular activities.

Are you interested in getting involved in activities outside of your degree? 

Do you already participate in any extra-curricular activities? We recognise over 100 opportunities! (E.g. Society committee roles, Free Language Courses, Part time work (on and off campus etc.) 

The Birmingham Award (formerly the Personal Skills Award) is the university’s employability programme for undergraduates. The award can help you to recognise and develop skills gained from your activities in preparation for graduate employment!

Student Enterprise Ambassadors.

Would like to apply to become a Student Enterprise Ambassador?

Aim: to promote/attend enterprise events whilst growing your network and gaining exposure to extra-curricular opportunities.

In terms of what you would be doing, it is fully flexible with minimal time commitment and a great addition to your CV.

BPS Psychology Careers Festival. 

06 November 2023 - 11 November 2023.

Throughout the six-day festival hosting careers sessions across different online stages where you’ll hear from inspirational speakers across a broad range of disciplines.

Talks from a number of individuals at different stages of their career, from a variety of different backgrounds.
