The My Right to Study process helps you complete your essential tasks with confidence, so that you can focus on starting your studies here at Birmingham. You will start the process online and complete it in-person once you have arrived on campus.
Your Right to Study check begins with you uploading evidence such as your passport and your eVisa share code using the My Right to Study system. The system will guide you to upload the correct documents for your visa type.
The check is completed when you attend an appointment on campus to present your final documents. Once complete, you can collect your student ID card. It is your responsibility to ensure that your Right to Study check is completed.
Upload your documents on My Right to Study
You will need to log into the My Right to Study system using your student username and password. Your username takes the format 'ABC123' or 'ABC1234', and forms the first part of your student email address. You will receive these when you are invited to complete Online Registration.
If you have any problems with your username or password, you will need to contact the IT Service Desk.
Help with uploading documents
The system will guide you to upload the correct documents for your visa type. You will see that some are 'required' - these are the documents you must upload. You only need to upload the 'optional documents if asked to by the International Students Team. Find out more about what you'll upload.
If you have any problems uploading your documents, please contact the International Students Team. Please include your student ID number, so that the team can help you more efficiently.
Your eVisa share code
Your share code will allow us to check your identity and immigration status with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and confirm that your visa covers the period that you will study in the UK. Codes expire after 90 days and you can get a new code whenever you need one.
Accessing your eVisa share code
You will need make sure that you have set up a UKVI account to access a share code for your visa.
You will then need to sign in to the View and Prove service.
When prompted, select a share code for 'Something else'. The share code you receive should start with the letter S.
When should I upload my documents?
You should upload a copy of your passport and your eVisa share code after your visa has been approved. Some visa types won't have an eVisa share code - we'll ask you to provide alternative documents. Find out more about what you'll upload.
Once you have submitted documents, you will not be able to edit your submission or submit further documents until it has been checked by the University. Please check your emails for updates or check the status of your documents on the My Right to Study system. Any documents you do not upload or do not have yet can be brought to your in-person appointment during Welcome to complete the Right to Study check.
