I have been a part-time chaplain at the University of Birmingham since 2003. I have enjoyed working with staff and students of different faith traditions or none, sharing in whatever way possible the goodness that is the goal of all of us for a safer, more just and peaceful world. While my first university degree was in mathematics, I completed Master’s degrees in Theology, Religious Education and Philosophy of Communications at New York Theological Seminary and New York University. My first thirty years of ministry were spent as a journalist with a concentration on justice and human rights concerns in North America and Southern Africa. The Lutheran tradition stresses that God’s love and forgiveness for all is a gift, not to be earned or bought but received in faith and lived in thankfulness. I have been blessed to be a part of the Multifaith Chaplaincy, and am pleased to support students of all traditions in the quest for a better future for all. Email: j.a.evenson@bham.ac.uk
