Undergraduates, it's time to 'Have Your Say' through one of our national surveys

Hear from our Student Content Shapers on how you can make your voice heard

Your voice matters.

Over the next few weeks, all eligible students (undergraduate and postgraduate) will have the opportunity to make their voice heard in ONE of our national surveys.

Today, our undergraduate surveys – the National Student Survey (NSS) and UK Engagement Survey (UKES) – open for eligible UoB students. This is your chance to tell us about your university experience and help shape the future of UoB.

Both surveys are independently run and, therefore, confidential.

Which survey can I complete and how?

If you’re a final year undergraduate, you can complete the National Student Survey (NSS). If you’re eligible to take part, you will receive an email from Ipsos MORI with a personalised link to the survey (so check your inbox) or by visiting thestudentsurvey.com.

Non-final year undergraduates can complete the UK Engagement Survey (UKES). If you're eligible to take part, check your student inbox for a link unique to you or log in using this link.

More information on these surveys including log in instructions can be found on our Student Surveys intranet pages or below.

If you’re a postgraduate student, keep an eye out on your student communication channels and University Graduate School comms on how to complete your relevant survey (Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey or Postgraduate Research Experience Survey) from Monday 13 March 2023.

Although not compulsory, this is a great opportunity for you to share your honest feedback on what it has been like to study on your course. You can help us to understand what you most value and enjoy about your university experience, and tell us what you recommend should be improved.

Grab a freebie and have your say

We don’t want you to miss out on sharing your views so over the next few weeks you’ll be hearing from us through our student communication channels including email, The Brum Bulletin, MyUoB App and UniBirmingham social media. Your school and department will also be in touch with you, to encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say. For the NSS, you’ll also receive emails and telephone calls from Ipsos Mori - more about this below.

If you’re on campus on Tuesday 7 February, pop along to the Main Library Atrium between 12-2pm to grab one of our survey freebies – you can even complete a survey while you’re there!

About the NSS

The National Student Survey (NSS) is sent to eligible final year undergraduates and presents an opportunity to reflect on your experiences at University. It is run by the Office for Students, an independent regulator of higher education, and Ipsos MORI, an independent market research company who manage the survey.

Eligible students will receive an email from Ipsos MORI with a personalised link to the survey. Please note you will continue to receive regular email reminders from Ipsos MORI (and telephone calls) until you’ve completed it or choose to opt out.

It’s completely up to you if and how you complete the NSS. You should not be influenced in any way by staff or fellow students.

About the UKES

The UK Engagement Survey (UKES) is an annual national survey open to non-final year undergraduates which helps universities understand how their students learn and helps you, as students, get the best value out of your studies. It is co-ordinated by Advance HE on behalf of UK universities.

UKES will feed directly into changes to teaching and learning here at the University of Birmingham which will benefit you before you graduate.

Your log in details for UKES are different to your your usual username and password that you would use to access other University of Birmingham systems/accounts. Detailed instructions on how to log in can be found on our UKES page

You can also head to Canvas and check out the UKES FAQs page for more information.
