Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES)

PRES 2019 intranet

What is PRES?

The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) is the only national survey for postgraduate research students' experience. It is run every other year by the University, working in partnership with Advance HE and Jisc. Approximately 115 universities and colleges across the UK take part in the survey.

The PRES 2021 survey is now closed.

Why should I take part?

We want our current and future Postgraduate Researchers to have the best possible experience, working within a supportive environment that helps you prepare for the next stage of your careers.

This is your chance to tell the University about your experience as a Postgraduate Researcher here. The survey lets us know what is working well and what's not, helping us make things better. Responses from you help us improve both our current and future support, enabling us to do better for all of our Postgraduate Researchers. Our survey is endorsed by the Guild of Students.

The following are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions from our Postgraduate Researchers.

How do I access the survey?

The survey is open to all Postgraduate Researchers who are Normally Registered or in Thesis Awaited Status, excluding Visiting Research Students. You will receive a personalised link to the survey, but you can also access and complete the survey using the following details.

What happens with the results?

Your feedback is extremely important to us. The results of PRES are used to enhance the services and support offered to our Postgraduate Researchers. We can compare your experience against other Postgraduate Researchers across the University and with other institutions to see how we are doing and where we need to improve.

How do I find out the results?

A final report is produced for each College combining the results across the University with specific findings at College level. The reports tell you what we are doing in response to the Survey, and the concerns raised by Postgraduate Researchers. See previous PRES reports below.
