Still on campus over summer? Pause is too. Whether you're writing up or researching, drop into a session to recharge and prioritise your wellbeing. We know that summer can be just as busy when you're a postgraduate student, especially when dissertation deadlines loom and research demands your attention. But amidst the pressure, your wellbeing matters.
Maintaining your mental health directly supports your stamina for academic work. Taking time out to do something mindful and connect with others will help you return to your studies refreshed and in a clearer mind to keep up the great work!
So, why not take a well-earned break and head to a Pause session on campus?
What is Pause?
Pause is a wellbeing initiative designed to support all students, delivered in partnership with an experienced charity. Through creative workshops and informal drop-in sessions, Pause offers safe, relaxed spaces for reflection, connection, and renewal. It's not about stepping away from your goals; it's about enabling yourself to meet them from a healthier place.
Weekly sessions you can join:
Crafternoon: Wednesdays, 1–4pm (Library Lounge, Main Library)
Crafternoons are mindful art-based sessions that let you create and unwind in a calm and communal space. Materials are provided – just come as you are to create, relax and chat.
Comfort Zone: Thursdays, 2–4pm (The Lodge, North Gate)
This session welcomes you to enjoy a drink and a snack, meet peers, and spend time in the garden if the weather permits! It’s a relaxed space for chatting, crafting, or simply sitting in silence – whatever you need.
Drop-in Support: Tuesdays to Thursdays, 11am–5pm (The Lodge, North Gate)
Sometimes you just need to talk. You might be feeling stressed about your dissertation, facing burnout, or grappling with imposter syndrome. No matter what, you’re not alone. The Pause team is here for you so feel free to stop by for an empathetic ear.
Why it matters
Balancing intense academic work with personal wellbeing is a challenge that many PG students quietly struggle with. By attending a Pause session, you're not stepping away from your degree, you're stepping towards it with a better mindset. You deserve that breath. You’re doing hard work. Make sure you show up for yourself, too.
