Christmas on campus has begun here at UoB!

We’re so excited to kick off this year's extra special 125th Christmas on Campus on Wednesday 3 December! From our first-ever epic light show to a carousel ride, we’ve got a whole line-up of festive magical events to help you celebrate the season. Plus loads of fun!

Have you been on campus lately?

Santa's coming to campus

Catch Santa in real life at our Christmas Marquee from 11:00 to 16:00 on Wednesday 3 December!  Remember to treat yo’elf to a break from studies by popping along to Santa's Grotto to find out if you’ve made the ‘nice’ list. Be quick to grab yourselves a free gift from Santa. Pick up a hot drink and snack and get creative with crafts and fun stalls.

To help spread the Christmas cheer head to our Christmas craft fair in the Bramall Music building from 11:00 to 15:00 and pick up your festive handcrafted treats. Perfect for those secret Santa gifts, stocking fillers or just a little something for you. Or check out the Christmas artisan market in the centre of campus from 11:00 to 20:00 packed with unique crafts, delicious street food, and local traders selling all things festive.

The Christmas carousel returns to the heart of campus on Wednesday 3 December (11:00 to 20:00) and again from Thursday 4 December to Tuesday 16 December (11:00-18:00 weekdays only). Take a spin between lectures or enjoy an early-evening ride to melt away the winter blues.

Christmas light show and switch-on

As dusk settle, Chancellor's Court transforms with our first-of-its-kind immersive light show telling the story of UoB in music, colour and animated projections on the Aston Webb building. From Joseph Chamberlain’s vision to our world-changing thinkers, this captivating experience will celebrate our past and future in style. It promises to be an unforgettable immersive experience – you don’t want to miss it! Showing at 16:15, 17:00 and 20:00, so pick a time and come watch the magic unfold!

Then stick around for our annual Christmas light switch-on at 17:00 and watch the campus light up for the festive season.

In the mood for some carol-oke?

Join the Ecumenical Christian Chaplaincy and the Department of Music for our UoB Carol Service. All are warmly invited on Wednesday 3 December from 18:15. Doors to the Great Hall open at 17:30 for a 18:15 start. Get there early as places are limited.

Staying in University accommodation over the holidays?

If you’re staying on campus during Christmas, there’s loads happening both on campus and around to keep the festive spirit going. Check out the Christmas in Halls intranet page.

Christmas dinner at the Vale

Join us for a traditional Christmas dinner on Tuesday 23 December. We’re talking roast turkey with all the trimmings (plant-based alternative available), and Christmas pudding – all for £15.00 or £13.50 if you’re a Student Living Plus resident! Continue the celebrations with our festive foodie hamper, available for collection on 24 December. And that’s not even everything…

This is just a taste of what’s planned for our extra-special 125th celebrations. Keep an eye out on the What's on for students' page for more festive fun. Let’s make this Christmas a magical season to remember.

Christmas in Birmingham

If you’re heading into the city, you’ll find plenty more seasonal magic including the world-famous Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market and ice skating and the Big Wheel near the Library of Birmingham. You can find more event details on our ‘Events around Birmingham’ intranet page.

Need support? We’re here for you

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, being away from home at this time of year can feel lonely — and with assessments and exams approaching, things can feel overwhelming too. It’s completely okay to feel this way. If you ever need someone to talk to, we’re here to listen. You can find details of all the support services available on the ‘Time to Talk?’ intranet page
