Death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

The University of Birmingham was founded in 1900 by Royal Charter, from Queen Victoria, and we feel incredibly privileged to have continued this relationship with Queen Elizabeth II in her role as University Visitor. We are grateful for Her Majesty’s support for our University and were honoured to host her visits to our campus on many occasions throughout her reign.

We understand that many members of our community will be affected by this news and we would like to reassure you that all of our student support services are available. Further details of those services can be found on the Time to Talk intranet page.

If you need to talk to someone for emotional support you can always contact our 24/7/365 listening service, UB Heard

All University services will continue to operate normally throughout the next week.

We will continue to provide further updates as more information is confirmed about the arrangements for the Queen’s State Funeral and throughout the period of National Mourning.  An online book of condolence is available at The Royal Family website.
