Why Selly Oak?

Selly Oak's environment is changing quickly. What was once private housing is now turning to many letting properties, notably filled by temporary residents such as students. In September 2017, a new Selly Oak university residence for students was built to accommodate 178 students and a new sports pavilion was constructed.

While change is inevitable, key to any change is harmony: making Selly Oak a great place to live and work for all.

The short term voluntary Projects for autumn 2018 will be locally based, helping to forge stronger, positive relationships with our community. All projects will have a social dimension, working with community organisations in Selly Oak and the surrounding area to help improve lives and the environment.

Where is Selly Oak?

Selly Oak is located along the Bristol road and is next to the University of Birmingham’s main campus. It’s a residential and industrial area in the South West of Birmingham. It sits in the Selly Oak ward, which has a population of 25,885 people. The dominant occupations (according to the 2011 census) are professional positions, clerical, supervisory and administration.
