The Student Communications Team is responsible for overseeing central communications to all students, ensuring our student community receives the right content on the right channel at the right time, and that they have all the information and support they need to have a positive experience at UoB.
Our team manages a number of communication channels and campaigns every year. We also work with colleagues across the University to support them in delivering student communications, aligning our comms at central and local level as much as possible.

Channels
The Student Communications Team is responsible for making sure our students know about the great things happening at UoB and are receiving the information and support they need to have a positive student experience. We do this through the following channels:
- Student intranet - main hub and advising other teams on content
- MyUoB app - content and promotion
- All student emails and fortnightly 'Brum Bulletin' newsletter which goes out to all our students. Anyone can submit content for this.
- Social media - working with External Relations to develop content for our main University channels.
- Campus dressing and digital screens on campus
Our video shares how students can get the latest news and updates.
Strategy
Our Student Communications Framework was developed in conjunction with students and staff from across the University and sets our strategic direction. It features ten innovations over the next two years, some of which we have already achieved. Read on for the Student Communications Framework (PDF).
Collaboration
We work with colleagues from across the University who communicate with students and researchers so that information is clear, consistent and accessible. Our Student Communications Editorial Network on MS Teams is a space for colleagues to keep up-to-date with what we're currently communicating to students as well as to share ideas, news and events and campaign assets. We also share our Communications Content Calendar on this platform. If you would like to join the Network please email studentcommunications@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
Campaigns
The student voice is at the heart of everything we do and we work closely with our students and researchers when developing and implementing big communications campaigns. We normally run around six campaigns every year, including Making it Happen, UoBe Festival, Welcome and the promotional campaign for NSS (National Student Survey).
Training
We also offer training for those delivering student communications, ranging from half day programmes to short, practical sessions. Many of these resources are available on the Student Communications Editorial Network Teams site but you can also email Yvonne Mullan-Evans at y.a.mullanevans@bham.ac.uk.
Contact
If you have any questions or would like to find out more about any of the above, please email studentcommunications@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
Please note: as of September 2021 the team no longer deal with AS staff communications and the AS staff intranet. For enquiries relating to staff communications or the AS intranet pages please email ascomms@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
