Manufacturing Judging Day

The Manufacturer Awards, organised by the Manufacturer Magazine, is the biggest award ceremony in the sector, with attendance numbers continuing to grow year on year. On 4th December 2013, it is expected to attract around 1000 delegates, from various manufacturing backgrounds, to the ICC in Birmingham.

Facilitated by the Business Engagement Team, the University of Birmingham has strong links with the magazine, and this year on Thursday 3rd October, we hosted the ‘Judging Day’, at Hornton Grange. With 12 categories, 60 companies, over 120 delegates and 30 judges, a huge business audience descended onto campus to compete for an award. Our very own Professor Duc Pham, Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering, was one of the guest judges, and had the challenging but interesting task of finding a worthy winner of the ‘Manufacturing in Action’ award.

During the course of the day, members of The Business Engagement Team and Research and Innovation Services networked with the award nominees to explain how they can access the expertise at the University. A number of leads were generated as a result of the event and there will be considerable opportunity to cultivate these relationships further.

On 4th December the University of Birmingham have a table of 10 at the award ceremony which promises to be a stimulating celebration of British manufacturing excellence.
