NERC Grant Applications

Description
As you may know from January 2017 the University will be subject to a cap on the number of applications that we can submit, coupled to this we know that NERC has seen a significant increase in the quality of applications that are being received, and it is therefore vital that we are allowing sufficient time to develop out proposals and ensure the best chances of success.

Senior College appointments announced

Description
The College has made a number of senior appointments this month, in the roles of Director of Education, Head of School of Metallurgy and Materials and Head of School of Mathematics.

Beacon orientation workshop

Description
The College will host a Beacon orientation workshop on Wednesday 20 July, from 11:00 to 12:30 in room G13 of the Nuffield building. This will start with an introduction to the Beacon scheme and what it involves, followed by an opportunity for individuals to discuss what an application might mean for them.

Description
In order to facilitate the closure of the 2015/16 accounts for EPS please note the following deadlines for submission of requests to the EPS Finance Team. This will help to ensure, where possible, requests can be processed in time for year end.

Business Engagement work with you to introduce you to companies in your area of research and can set up commercial contracts for project collaboration. Since January the Business Engagement Partners for EPS have met with a number of existing and potential industrial collaborators across a variety of sectors.

Chief Scientific Adviser invites QT Hub to participate in Hands On Science exhibition

Description
University of Birmingham researchers from the Quantum Technology Hub for Sensors and Metrology recently participated in an interactive 'Hands On Science' exhibition at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) offices in London. They were invited to participate by Professor Tim Dafforn, the Chief Scientific Adviser for BIS.

Enhancing our International reputation

Description
The Vice Chancellor recently announced the £2 million 'Priestley PhD Fellowships' programme designed to attract high quality postgraduate researchers to split their study between Birmingham and Melbourne. Our agreement with Melbourne also provides a £100,000 collaborative fund to encourage close working between academics in each university and increase exchanges between the UK and Australia.
