The survey we are asking you to take part in is a national survey of everyone who has recently qualified from any university or HE college in the UK. The information you provide will also be very useful to us at the University of Birmingham to advise our current students about the opportunities that might be available to them.

Of those who obtained qualifications across the UK in 2015/16, 78% responded to the survey. More results can be found at https://www.hesa.ac.uk/news/13-07-2017/sfr246-ap-destinations-of-leavers.

If we don't hear from you we will try to contact you again, possibly by phone, so please let us know if you change your address or phone number. If we can't get in touch with you at all, we may try to get information about what you were doing from someone else, either at the University of Birmingham or someone we can reach using the contact information you have previously provided. If you don't want us to do this, or you don't want to give us any information at all, please tell us. Below are details about what happens to your information after it is sent to us.

The current survey may be audited – that is, it may be checked to make sure it has been carried out correctly. If you don't want to be contacted during an audit, please let us know.

What happens to your information

The University of Birmingham is contacting those people who have recently graduated to ask them to take part in the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey 2016/17.

The data collected from this survey is used internally:

  • to analyse employability trends across subject areas;
  • to provide analysis of student destinations both in employment and further study to support institutional planning and Careers Network’s work with current students;
  • to feed into institutional Key Performance Indicators on graduate employability;
  • for other related purposes.

The data collected for this survey may also be used by the University to provide information about the employability of our graduates on our website or in promotional materials. When your data is used in this way, it will be aggregated with data received from others who have responded to the survey and will never be published in a form that identifies you.

The University will never use your data to take or support any decisions about you.

By completing the questionnaire you are agreeing to the University recording the information you provide and analysing your data for the purposes as outlined above and for the University to pass information to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) for the purposes as outlined in the link provided below. The data will also be stored in the Development and Alumni Relations Office's database and the following link provides further information about how we use this: University of Birmingham’s Data Protection Information.

We will send information from this survey to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The uses that HESA makes of your survey responses are described in detail at https://www.hesa.ac.uk/about/regulation/data-protection/notices/dlhe-c16018
