Project Brief

UoB Online were briefed to design and build the University's very first micro-credential on the FutureLearn platform; TESOL: An Introduction to Language Teaching Methodology. A ten-credit course to be delivered over 12 weeks. The course needed to provide an in-depth taste of postgraduate study for teachers of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) who want to gain some formal training and develop their careers.

Solution

A well-structured 12-week course with a clear pathway to success. The course had a wide range of activities such as interactive exercises, quizzes, short videos, animations and rich imagery. These smaller activities gradually progressed to larger, more challenging assignments. The activities were designed to be engaging and accessible at different levels so that students could use them as inspiration for their own teaching. Asynchronous study group exercises were carefully structured to build collegiality and allow students to learn from one another.

“UoB Online have always been quick to realise what I was trying to create and able to realise this in such a way that it worked technically. I learnt a lot of new skills and encountered a range of new ideas for making courses that are innovative and engaging for learners.”
