About the team

The Research Grant Set-up and Support Team is a central team that oversees the set-up of all research awards at the university. The team sets up new research awards, can help PIs troubleshoot any issues and provides advice on all aspects of project set-up.

From June 2019, all research grants are managed through Worktribe the University’s Research Grant Management system:

If you have received a new award, please contact your College Research Support Office in the first instance (contact details for these teams are in the “Useful links” menu below). They will be able to mark the award as successful on Worktribe and hand over to us.

How we can help

The team is responsible for the set-up of new projects from award notification up to the generation of a project account code. This includes the award set-up in Worktribe, as well as guiding PIs through processes including contracts, recruitment, studentships, risk assessments, procurement of equipment, ethical and governance approval, and due diligence procedures.

The team also aims to provide support to researchers who have encountered serious delays or disruptions as a result of internal administrative requirements.  Where input is needed from multiple professional services teams, the Grant Set-up and Support team can help to co-ordinate this activity and help to get the project back on track.

Please note the team deals with all new research awards, including transfers from other institutions, but excluding EU, International, Business Engagement and Strategic Project grants. These will usually be dealt with by the existing teams dedicated to these areas. Existing grants are supported by the Research Finance team.
