Annual Leave

Your holiday entitlement is determined by your terms and conditions of employment. 

Full salary is payable during holidays.  

Support, administrative and other related staff

Full-time support, administrative and other academic-related staff are entitled to 40 days off a year, made up of 25 days of 'bookable' annual holiday, seven closed days, and eight bank holidays. Staff can also arrange to buy additional leave.

If you work part-time or term time only, your holidays are calculated pro rata.

Academic staff

No specified periods of holiday are laid down for academic staff. Holidays must be taken in consultation with the Head of School, and normally outside term time in accordance with University practice.

Closed days and public holidays

The University closes for 15 days in each academic year, ie from 1 October to the following 30 September. Eight of these days are public holidays: the Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day holidays; Good Friday and Easter Monday; May Day; Whit Monday; August Bank Holiday Monday.

The other seven days are set in advance by the University Council, and will normally include: days which would otherwise be working days between Christmas and New Year; and the Tuesday and Wednesday after Easter.
