School Research Seminar
With speaker Dr Angharad Butler-Rees, Research Fellow, University of Birmingham
This seminar will report findings from Angharad’s previous research at the University of Warwick where she worked on the Educational Pathways and Work Outcomes of Disabled Young People in England study, funded by the Leverhulme Trust (2020-2023). The research involved a qualitative longitudinal study of 35 autistic, dyslexic and/or physically disabled pupils in mainstream schools in England. The presentation will explore intersectional inequalities in school experiences and post-16 trajectories, with a particular focus on differences by condition/disability type and social class. Findings will also reveal the interplay of structure and agency in the co-construction and experience of disability, along with the importance of a longitudinal lens to understanding the educational trajectories and transitions of disabled children and young people.
