University success at DocFest 2012

docfest

On June 16th, Dr Amitava Banerjee, NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Cardiovascular Medicine in the School of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, and Dr Nick Hawes, Lecturer in Intelligent Robotics in the School of Computer Science, headed to Sheffield Doc/Fest to take part in the final of the ‘Specialist Factual New Talent Pitch’.

The competition gives aspiring expert presenters from a range of disciplines the chance to pitch cutting edge research in their area as a documentary programme in front of a live audience at the festival, taking feedback and questions from a panel of leading programme makers, co-producing organisations and funders.

In a fantastic result, Ami won the competition with his project ‘Heart of a Migrant’ and will now make a development film with Discovery Channel Europe. Equally as impressive was Nick, who achieved a very close and “highly recommended” second place with his pitch ‘How to Build a Robot’.
