Celebrating staff at HAS Oscars

Over 200 members of UoB staff recently joined together in The Hub to celebrate their hard work over the last 12 months at the annual HAS Oscars (OutStanding Customer Award Recognition Scheme) Awards evening.

The ceremony, which honours individual and collective efforts of HAS staff who have gone the extra mile to ensure customer’s expectations are not only met, but often exceeded, had a very festive 40s Hollywood theme and guest were treated to a fabulous three course meal along with entertainment from Lola Lamour who belted out classic songs from the era.

Hosts Monica Guise and Kevin Herbert kicked off the evening in high spirits by showing the depth and diversity within Hospitality and Accommodation Services with an aptly named ‘HAS Life’ video, featuring staff from across all departments to the theme of rock band Blur’s 1994 smash hit ‘Park Life’.

They went on to announce the shortlisted candidates, highly commended and winner for each of the seven awards categories, for which over 200 nominations were received. The volume of nominations just shows the high level of service provided across campus by HAS employees, and the reason the shortlisting process was so difficult for judges Professor Adam Tickell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge transfer, Carolyn Pike, Director, Legal Services, and David Hykin, Relationship Director, Lloyds TSB.

The hosts then handed over to Stuart Richards, Director of HAS, who presented his Directors Awards for Best Newcomer, Individual and team. The fabulous evening was rounded off by announcing the raffle winners, of which the proceeds went to the chosen charity ‘The Children’s Trust’.

Chair of the HAS Oscars Committee, and recipient of the 2012 Directors Award, Andrew Aldridge said, "It has been a pleasure being part of the HAS Oscars Committee this year and I was certainly impressed with the standard of nominations we received, and would like to take this opportunity to give a massive well done to those shortlisted, highly commended and the winners of each category. Being part of the committee this year has been an eye opener for all the hard work that HAS staff put into their roles on a daily basis".
